With their earth-friendly architecture, closed-loop eco-systems and untouched nature at every turn, these are my favourite eco hotels in Bali.
After staying at countless eco-friendly hotels in Bali, I’ve seen what real sustainability looks like – and I’ve also seen what’s just good marketing. But the resorts on this list go far beyond the buzzwords. They’re the real deal: from rainwater harvesting and permaculture gardens, to low-impact bamboo architecture that blends seamlessly with nature. I’ve stayed at these eco hotels in Bali, I’ve seen the way they operate, and I didn’t see a shred of plastic throughout my stay. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly resort in Bali that actually lives up to the label, these are the ones I’d personally recommend for 2025.
My favourite eco-friendly Bali hotels:
- Most fun: The Seed Bali
- Most beautiful: Bambu Indah
- Glamping experience: Capella Ubud
The Best Sustainable Resorts In Bali
1. The Seed Bali – Candidasa
Best for: Total privacy on the beach, with the feel of a barefoot eco-playground.

If the world was ending and you had to hole up somewhere amazing, you’d want it to be The Seed Bali. You see, when we were lucky enough to stay at this beachfront estate, we chatted to the owner, Logan, who told us how The Seed was first conceptualised during the pandemic. It was built as an off-grid commune for his friends and family to escape to while the world went mad. But today, this wildly creative, eco-friendly property in Candidasa can be rented exclusively for you and your crew.
Throughout the tropical grounds, there are four individually-designed villas, all crafted from reclaimed wood and sustainable, local materials. But that’s not all. As part of The Seed’s closed-loop ecosystem, they harvest rainwater, compost food scraps, filter greywater through banana trees, and operate as low-impact as possible. The permaculture gardens supply the onsite restaurant, and everything is built with minimal concrete and maximum care for the land. It really felt like an off-grid hideaway, and we didn’t want to leave.
What’s so impressive is, they’ve matched sustainability with serious fun. We woke up with yoga in the sea-view yoga shala, before hauling margaritas into the treetop bar. There’s also an underground sauna and ice bath, an all-natural outdoor gym, a soundproof karaoke den, treehouse maze, and a dive plank. Even our villa merged with a waterfall! Eco-friendly, yes. But never boring…
Good to know: The Seed is totally private, so you have to book the entire estate for your stay (you can’t rent rooms individually).
Local tip: The Seed can sleep up to 21 people, but some of the beds are best suited for kids (e.g bunkbeds). So I would say, 16 adults could sleep here comfortably.
Address: Candidasa, East Bali.
2. Bambu Indah – Ubud
Best for: A serene escape surrounded by bamboo structure

Award-winning and jungle-hugged, Bambu Indah is Bali’s iconic bamboo-built boutique resort on the outskirts of Ubud. Founded by nature and art lovers, the resort follows an ecologically-mindful ethos. Think sustainably designed bamboo houses, and naturally filled pool and pond. They even provide a waste recycling system and all-natural, organic bath products. Take your pick from the uniquely designed bamboo houses, like the crescent moon-shaped house, or the Tree House perched between the branches of two sturdy Banyan trees. You can even score a day pass to explore the stunning grounds and dine at the riverside Warung restaurant.
Good to know: Bambu Indah is nestled amid nature, so it’s best to leave your stilettos at home.
Local tip: Day passes are available if you only want to explore the pools and restaurants.
Address: Jl Baung, Sayan, Gianyar, Ubud
3. Capella Ubud – Ubud
Best for: Glamping in luxury tents

A luxury glamping resort perched in the jungles of Ubud, Capella Ubud is truly a one-of-a-kind destination. It has jaw-dropping views, and one- and two-bedroom tents with private salt water pools. The resort is also home to award-winning al fresco restaurants overlooking the treetop canopy. Plus, a rainforest-cocooned spa tent specialising in bespoke treatments, and a daily itinerary of Capella-curated cultural experiences. As nightfall beckons, settle down by the fire beneath the stars for Balinese folklore and tales. It comes as no surprise that Capella has been awarded the “No. 1 Best Hotel Brand in The World” by Travel + Leisure…
Good to know: The restaurants and spa are also eco-friendly, opting to use sustainably sourced products and ingredients.
Local tip: If you’re staying for a few nights, it’s worth contacting a Capella Culturist who will curate a full itinerary for you. You’ll be able to fully immerse in culture and nature throughout your stay.
Address: Jl Raya Dalem, Banjar Triwangsa, Ubud
4. Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape – Payangan
Best for: Adults-only stay in the jungle
Hugged by greenery in Bali’s hidden enclave of Buahan, a 40-minute drive from Ubud, Banyan Tree Escape introduces a different way of being. This award-winning, adults-only oasis is the perfect hideaway to disconnect from the world and immerse in nature. Each of the barefoot-luxury villas come without any walls or doors, offering the most captivating setting to truly take in Bali’s beauty. Our fave has to be the Seven Peaks Pool Bale, perched sky-high for breathtaking sunrise views over Bali’s seven majestic mountains. Top tip: you can add-on daily meals and snacks, as well as outdoor adventures (like foraging!) to learn all about the surrounding native greenery…
Good to know: It’s a “no wall, no door” concept, so not ideal if you can’t stand insects, geckos and other jungle creatures.
Local tip: Prepare to do a lot of walking through steps and some stoned pathways.
Address: Jl Banjar Selat, Buahan Kaja, Payangan

5. Potato Head Suites & Studios – Seminyak
Best for: Eco-friendly beachfront stay

So much more than just an eco-friendly hotel, Desa Potato Head is a creative village that’s dedicated to sustainable living. For absolute beachfront views, we love the Potato Head Studios. But our favourite has to be the Potato Head Suites which combine ancient craftsmanship and modern designs. You’ll find sustainably-made and upcycled furnishings, naturally dyed textiles and heritage decor, as well as eco-friendly amenities like zero waste kits, refillable sunscreen, natural soaps and biodegradable slippers. Go for the two-bedroom Katamama Suite with its own rooftop jacuzzi, and make it a date at the zero-waste restaurant, Ijen, or at Tanaman, the wholly plant-based restaurant that honours local flora…
Good to know: Staying here means you can use the pool at Potato Head Beach Club.

7. Suarga Padang Padang – Uluwatu
Best for: Luxury stay that’s mindful to the environment

Consciously designed to blend into Uluwatu’s landscapes is Suarga Padang Padang; a sustainable boutique resort with iconic bamboo architecture. The resort offers eco accommodation right above Padang Padang Beach and Bali’s premier surf breaks. It’s a different kind of luxury here; the kind where comfort doesn’t leave a negative impact on the environment – from the sustainable building materials sourced locally, to the ocean breeze carefully directed for natural ventilation. There are 36 unique rooms, pavilions and villas to choose from, generously spread across 1.5 hectares of resort grounds, each decked out in indigenous aesthetics and antique decor. And let’s not forget the resort’s world-class restaurant, Dugong Lounge & Bar – one of the best restaurants in Uluwatu.
Good to know: Suarga Padang Padang is a surfer’s paradise, because of how close it is to Padang Padang’s left hand surf break.
Local tip: Be sure to head to Dugong – it’s one of the best places for sunset cocktails and dinner in Uluwatu.

Best for: Wellness and healing retreat in a sustainable luxury resort

More than just an eco resort, Fivelements Retreat is a holistic wellness retreat centre that stretches alongside the sacred Ayung River. This award-winning venue is all about eco-conscious living – be it in its regenerative designs, natural ventilation, sustainable building materials sourced locally, proper waste management, and even the restaurant’s plant-based cuisine. Each villa is a state-of-the-art bamboo wonder, decked out in modern amenities, as well as a private pool and a bespoke wooden bathtub. 10. Alam Mountain – Bangli
Best for: “Old Bali” vibes with jungle and mountain views

Escape to Alam Mountain and experience the magic of ‘old Bali’, nestled on the jungle-covered slopes of the sacred Mount Adeng. This luxury, eco-friendly villa is a “bridge to nature”, where you can immerse in local culture and volcano views. The villa’s two cottages are built using antique wood, hand-collected from around Indonesia. Each cottage houses a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, plus open-plan living and all the modern amenities you need. Bask on the terrace in the fresh mountain air, before feasting on farm-to-table dishes and secret Balinese recipes. Your own private chef will use ingredients harvested from the resort’s garden, and you can spend your days in the great outdoors with guided treks through rice fields and nearby farms. All before retreating to your mountain abode for an evening of stargazing…
Good to know: If you’re coming in a group of four, you can book both villas which are connected via the outside patio.

Home to originally designed treehouses and studios surrounded by greenery, you’ll get ‘cabin in the woods’ vibes at this intimate destination. We love the two-storey Treehouse Villa, with two bedrooms, naturally-lit dining and living rooms, and a patio where you can sit back and watch Bali’s golden sunset.
